North Andover Youth Council is a group of committed North Andover High School students who work together to accomplish tasks that will positively affect the community.

The Senior Group will be meeting on Tuesday nights from 7 - 8
The Freshman, Sophomore, Junior group will be meeting on Thursday nights from 6 - 7.

Youth Council is one of the longest lasting and successful programs that is run at the Youth Center.   Any current North Andover resident currently in high school is eligible for this group.

In previous years the Youth Council group has put together a myriad of fundraising activities that have helped out North Andover. One of the most popular has been the Girl’s Powder Puff Football game, whose proceeds are donated to the Santa Fund. Youth Council also volunteered their time to help the students at the Guilemette Elementary School in Lawrence by participating in an all day Spring Field Day and cookout. The group also helped have a positive effect on North Andover Middle School students by putting on a skit to prepare the students for what they should expect when they get to high school.

This year we hope to grow as a group and come up with new and exciting ideas.  With an enthusiastic group we expect that this year will be full of many positive and enjoyable projects and activities

Varsity Youth Council and Regular Youth Council have both been very busy this fall with numerous different projects. In October, Varsity Youth Council had a great time volunteering at the organization Cradles to Crayons in Boston. Cradles to Crayons is a non-profit organization that specializes in providing clothing and toys for underprivileged kids throughout the state.  They worked very hard inspecting clothes, matching outfits, and filling orders that met the needs of boys and girls in need. Especially around the holiday season organizations like these are very appreciative of volunteer groups. Youth Council was enthusiastic throughout the experience and they are looking forward to returning there in January.

This month, both groups also volunteered at the Sargent School Holiday Social!  They helped out with crafts, games, food drive, and a bake walk. Members from both groups gave up their Friday nights to volunteer at the Sargent School. Their time and effort made the night fun for all that were involved.

Youth Council also planned our annual Girls Powderpuff Football game at the High School. The event was a blast for all that were involved. In the first game the sophomores defeated the freshmen in a 35-21 battle. The other semifinal game saw a fantastic junior effort come up just short as the seniors held on for a 42-35 victory. The finals between the sophomores and seniors, was another classic. The game was undecided until the final possession with the seniors pulling out a late 35-28 victory. Varsity Youth Council members Kelly O’Connor and Angie Brunette were spectacular for the seniors in the victory. Most importantly the event raised a record $440. All the proceeds will be donated to the Eagle Tribune Santa Fund, which will provide for poor families in the area during the holidays. Youth Council did a spectacular job making signs, running a bake sale, broadcasting, refereeing, and of course playing in the game. The parents and fans were excited throughout the game and the event was definitely a roaring success!
