Freshmen/Sophomore Youth Council

Youth Council has been a staple Youth Services program for over 20 years. It’s a high school leadership group open to freshmen & sophomores, whose goal is to organize and participate in projects that help people in the community. In the past these projects have included volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, the nursing home, the soup kitchen and more.

High schoolers can apply for the Youth Center's leadership groups every September! Students accepted to our leadership groups must become Youth Center members. The applications will be available beginning the first day of school. See below for a description of this year's Youth Council activities! Youth Council 2016-17 Activities

Youth Council had a busy 2016-17 school year! They volunteered their service at the annual Knights on the Run put on by the North Andover Athletic Association. They also volunteered for the Atkinson PTO at their Halloween Book Fair and Holiday Social events. Some Youth Council members also offered free child care at North Andover Parent Resource Network (NAPRN) speaker events.

Youth Council planned the 10th annual Girls Powderpuff Football Event at Walsh Stadium. This event took place on Sunday, November 20th. Despite the cold weather, the event was a blast for all that were involved! In the first game the Junior girls defeated the Freshman girls. The other semifinal game saw the Sophomores come up short as the Seniors held on for a victory. The final championship game was between the Juniors and Seniors, with the Seniors winning it all!  Congrats, Seniors! Youth Council did an awesome job preparing for the event by getting players and coaches to participate, getting fans to attend the event and running a bake sale. This event would not have been possible without our referees and broadcasting team.

The Powderpuff tournament helped raise money for our Youth Council members to sponsor two children in the the Youth Center's Holiday Gift Drive, which supports families in need during the holiday season. The Youth Council group members used the money raised to purchase wish list gifts for the two children, and then wrapped the gifts as a group!

Youth Council also had an amazing time serving at the Lawrence Boys & Girls Club holiday dinner! Youth Council finished off the year with great projects like their annual Buddy Day at the Youth Center with the NAHS special education department, helping out at Franklin School's Book Fair, and volunteering at the Youth Center's annual fundraising event, the Knight to Shine!
