North Andover Youth Council is a group of committed North Andover High School students who work together to accomplish tasks that will positively affect the community.  Youth Council is one of the longest lasting and successful programs that is run at the Youth Center.   Any North Andover resident currently in high school in grades 9-11 is eligible for this group. The Youth Council team has already been picked for the 2011-2012 school year! Applications for Youth Council come out at the beginning of September every school year. This year Youth Council is run by Micaela Tetrault and Brittney Iovanella.

Youth Council is off to another great start this school year! In October, Youth Council spent a great deal of time organizing and planning their annual Powderpuff Football Event at the High School. They spent many weeks preparing for the event and then on Sunday, November 13th, the group worked hard to put on the football game! This year was the first year that the game was held at nights under the lights at Walsh Stadium and it was a great success. It was a blast for all that were involved. In the first game the freshman girls defeated the sophomore girls. The other semifinal game saw a fantastic junior effort come up just short as the seniors held on for a victory. The final championship game was between the freshmen and seniors, with the seniors winning the entire thing. Congrats seniors! Youth Council did an awesome job preparing for the event by getting sign-ups, getting fans to attend the event, making signs, coaching, running a bake sale, broadcasting, referring, and of course playing in the game. Most importantly the event raised a record of over $600, with all the proceeds being donated to the Eagle Tribune Santa Fund, which helps families in need during the holiday season! Thank you to everyone who participated and those who came out to see the event and support the group!

On November 18th, Youth Council also volunteered at the Sargent School Winter Carnival! They had a great time as they helped out with crafts, games, the food drive, and a bake walk. Their time and effort made the night fun for all that were involved!

At the beginning of December, Youth Council is also looking forward to spending the afternoon at Edgewood, a local nursing home, to do some caroling and visiting with the residents.

Stay tuned for the rest of the year to see what Youth Council is up to!
